Royal Antwerp shot stopper Senne Lammens is a hot commodity this summer, with some big name eyes on the highly-rated Belgian goalkeeper.
The 23-year old has been confirmed as leaving the Belgian side this summer, with Royal Antwerp sporting director Mark Overmars confirming, “the transfer of Senne Lammens has to happen, because we’ve already signed his replacement.”
Since then, many names have been brought up around Lammens, one of the biggest being Manchester United, who have been linked to several experienced keepers recently amidst the hamstring injury of current keeper Andre Onana, but who also have an eye on younger talents that could grow under manager Amorim’s guidance. And with Lammens now looking more available than ever, the Red Devils have turned their attention to the sought-after keeper from Belgium.
Newly-promoted Leeds United have also reportedly been eyeing Lammens along with Man United, according to Gazet van Antwerpen. The report suggests United are eyeing a potential second to Onana, who is still nursing his injury–while Leeds are seeing him as a sure number 1–IF they manage to land him with his handsome price tag of £17m set by Antwerp. Antwerp have set the price as they see selling Lammens as an opportunity to afford them a squad overhaul that might be able to take them to Europe next season.
But what are Lammens’ thoughts on all of this?
He is a young stopper who dreams of making it big in the Premier League. So upon hearing of all this interest revolving around him at the center, Lammens said ‘the first time I heard it, I thought: wow, immediately a world team that follows you. That is special.
'Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players. So it doesn’t have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive.
'Especially because it is about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football. You have to physically hold your own there, and that suits me.'
Lammens may have a difficult choice to consider but with top-notch options left and right, things are looking pretty good for the young Belgian.
